Boudoir Photoshoot: The Complete Guide
You’ve been thinking about it for a while. Maybe you saw a friend’s photos and something clicked. Maybe you want to do one thing that’s entirely for you.
Most women who walk through our studio doors felt exactly the way you feel right now. Curious, a little scared, not sure they’re “the type.”
There is no type. There’s just you.

What is a boudoir photoshoot?
Boudoir is a style of intimate portrait photography, typically taken in a private studio setting. The word comes from French, meaning a woman’s private room. In practice, it’s a professional photoshoot where you’re guided through poses that celebrate your body, your confidence, and your beauty. Sessions include professional hair and makeup, wardrobe styling, and expert direction. No modelling experience needed. Learn more about boudoir photography.
Why boudoir is empowering
If you’ve searched for a boudoir photographer, or read blogs or social media posts. You probably heard it over and over “we empower”, “boudoir is empowering” etc. But most people don’t tell you why. Why is boudoir so empowering?
We need to go deep here for a moment. Have you ever had your power taken away? Your consent? Your voice?
We all have our traumas (as horrible as that is). As a boudoir photographer, our job is to give you back that power. To give you the right to choose. You decide how much skin you want to show. You decide how feminine or sexual you want to be portrayed. You decide what images you want to purchase, or print, or share online.
And it can be “empowering” for other reasons. Like maybe you’ve been put down. Maybe you’ve put yourself down. By stepping in front of the camera and seeing yourself and how beautiful you truly are. It provides something. Accomplishment. Courage. Confidence. You really do feel like a boss after.

Before Your Session
Booking is the hardest part
Not the session. Not the poses. The moment you commit. We’ve heard every reason not to. Hundreds of times. Every woman who pushed past them said the same thing: “I wish I’d done this sooner.”
Choosing your look
The best boudoir images often aren’t in lingerie. An oversized shirt. A silk robe. Your favourite jeans. We have 30 outfit ideas and a full guide on what to wear if you want inspiration. Or skip the shopping entirely. Our client closet carries XS to 3XL.
Getting ready
Before your session we’ll send out a prep guide that has a lot of helpful tips and explains what you can expect. A little extra water, moisturize, skip anything that leaves marks on your skin. That’s it. The most important prep is mental. Remind yourself why you booked.
During Your Boudoir Photoshoot
Arriving at your boudoir photoshoot
It’s completely normal to be nervous. Almost everyone is. But don’t worry. Once you walk into our private Langley studio and meet our all female team, you’ll feel so comfortable.
Hair and Makeup
Our hair and makeup team takes over. Full experience, not a quick touch-up. By the time the last brush stroke is done, most women are already feeling it. That spark of “I actually look incredible.”
You do. You always did.

The session
You don’t need to know a single pose. Our photographer will guide you throughout the session. Trust. You’ll vibe. Soon you will be laughing between shots and forgetting you were ever nervous.
We have so many styling options that we’ll go over before your session. Dark and moody with deep shadows. The wet t-shirt look for something playful. Calvin Klein inspired in ripped jeans. Tattoo sessions that make your body art part of the art. Fine art nudes that treat the body as sculpture. Classic black and white. White sheet. Or a mix of everything.
Browse more boudoir photography ideas if you want inspiration beforehand, but the best plan is to show up open.
After your boudoir session
The reveal
Shortly after your session, you’ll see a curated selection of your images.
You’ve spent years looking in the mirror and noticing everything you want to change. The camera doesn’t do that. The camera saw someone powerful and at ease in her own skin. And now you’re looking at that person and realizing it’s you.
Living with your photos
Some women keep their images private. Some turn them into wall art. Some create luxury albums that become wedding gifts or private treasures. We offer wall art design services if you want help with placement.
The images aren’t the real takeaway. The real takeaway is how you carry yourself afterward. The way you catch your reflection and don’t look away.
This is for you
You don’t need to be a certain size. Our plus size boudoir sessions celebrate every curve.
You don’t need to come alone. Our couples sessions bring partners closer in ways neither expects.
You don’t need a reason. But if you have one, a wedding, a milestone, a chapter closing or opening, the timing is right.
